Papa John's pizza, John Schnatter, is stepping down as the CEO of the company he founded in 1984. This comes just two months after he criticized the NFL, and the kneeling during the anthem controversy. The sales of the company dropped dramatically and its image was tarnished, which they are seeking to repair after Schnatter departure. Corporate has put out this statement,

"With 120,000 Papa John’s corporate and franchise employees, Steve will put the spotlight on our pizza and the most important ingredient — our team members," John said on the future of his pizza chain. "We couldn’t have a more proven leader to guide Papa John’s through its next stage of growth."

Back in November they had tried to retract with
"We believe in the right to protest inequality and support the players’ movement to create a new platform for change. We also believe together, as Americans, we should honor our anthem. There is a way to do both"

That clearly did not work.
